Online & Hybrid Classes Personal Experience
Last fall of 2016, session two, I experienced my first online class in college after taking a hybrid class in biology in my second semester at LaGuardia Community college. Since my experience for both online class and hybrid class are similar, I will cover my online class only because it was my most recent. My online course was a communication class; when I essentially registered for that particular class, I had no idea it was an online class until my first day of class. Our first day of class was the only time we met face-to-face with professor and get to know who our classmates are.
After all, class activities, homework, quizzes, and exams were through blackboard. We didn’t use any type of software for the course, the course itself and professor were straight forward. Because the course was in a short 6 six weeks session, students were responsible to complete multiple assignments during the week including completing two lengthy quizzes after reading two chapters from the textbook and respond to two discussion questions on blackboard provided by professor in about two paragraphs for each question. It sounds like a load of work but the tasks were not too difficult to complete. I would rather complete that class in the short session since I have more free time in second sessions and I get to finish the course in only six weeks and move on from there. I really benefited from that class and got a good insight of interpersonal communication, interpret body language and emotions and more.

It`s inevitable that many students are intimidated from online classes and such and they have every right to do so, until they try it and their perspective will change just like myself. Our most anxiety comes mostly from what if I have an issue with any sort of course related subject or personal issue and I would be more comfortable talking to professor face-to-face and online classes lacks in this category. That’s not always true because most online classes; professors like the one I had for example, offers face-to-face communications via virtual reality softwares like Skype and actual meet-ups by accommodating an appointment with your professor to discuss any concern.
Overall, If there is one thing I would like to add or implement to both hybrid and online classes is if professors could possibly arrange a class session like every three weeks for all students where they can get to discuss their current progress for the course and what they need to work on to boost up their grade.
